The Situation

Blink for Home was an early entry into the market for wireless home security cameras. Their team of engineers had developed cutting-edge hardware, but lacked any consumer-facing software to control it. They imagined a simple, intuitive iPhone app that would allow customers to configure their cameras, monitor their home, and enjoy peace of mind.

My Solution

I lead a UX design process that defined the experience from unboxing through camera setup and day-to-day usage. The outcome was an iOS app designed around visually communicating status through snapshots from the cameras, color, and iconography. Once a camera was set up, any activity that it observed triggered a push notification with a detailed message and a recording. The app enabled users to watch recordings on the spot or access them later from a searchable archive.

  • I collaborated with stakeholders on the Blink team to establish functional requirements.
  • I documented user flows for account creation, camera setup, and day-to-day usage.
  • I created wireframes and clickable prototypes.
  • I designed the iOS app UI and iconography.

What I Did

  • Functional Requirements
  • User Flows
  • Wireframing
  • Prototyping
  • UI Design

The app architecture was mapped early in the process and iterated in tandem with designs.

Early clickable wireframes focused on navigational elements to evaluate flows.

Interface designs were assembled into storyboards to share with stakeholders.

Additional iterations on the design defined architecture for managing cameras at multiple locations.

UI animations were broken into individual frames.

Really love this system. Does everything stated. App is very easy to use and setup went flawlessly. This system gives great peace of mind both from a monitoring and security standpoint.
