I love my dog and I learn most easily through hands on experience. When my job at the design agency Almighty began to include designing for the Internet of Things, I decided that it was time to take on a personal project to create my own IoT device. What better problem to solve than how to show my pup just how much I loved him even when I was at the office.
I designed, fabricated, and coded a prototype for an internet connected dog treat dispenser that I named Snacks. I defined the requirements that the device must accept any size or type of treat and must be accessible from a mobile device. From there, I iterated through multiple prototypes of the treat dispenser and designed a web app to control it. The device plays a short melody to cue the dog to its treat delivery before sending a notification back to the app confirming the successful delivery of the treats.
- I designed an Arduino powered treat dispenser and a web app.
- I coded the hardware and software experiences.
- I tested and iterated on my designs through multiple prototypes.
